Boom! 10 Barrel Brewing Acquired by AB Inbev
Well that’s some pretty awesome news. In case you missed it, A-B announced that it’s purchasing Bend, Oregon’s 10 Barrel. You might recall that 10 Barrel has been making quite a stir, having one a pile of medals at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival.
10 Barrel is still pretty small (40,000 barrels in 2015), so it’s interesting to see A-B work brewery acquisition of this size. One aspect that leaps off the page is the aforementioned critical acclaim that the company has been generating. Couple that with the fact that A-B intends to give the company access to national distribution and you can start to understand the logic. A-B gets access to a high end, well appreciated product, while 10 Barrel gets access to national distro. Not bad.
A-B has definitely been at work filling out its fight card of craft brewers. Now on the list:
- Goose Island ($38.8m)
- Blue Point
- Widmer, Kona, and Redhook (via their stake in the Craft Brew Alliance)
Unfortunately, and not surprisingly, deal terms weren’t disclosed. And lord knows we always like additional data points on craft brewery valuation.
Here’s the founders talking about the deal:
